Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month

“With tremendous burdens often come enormous gifts. The trick is to identify the gifts, and glory in them.”-Dr. Maya Shetreat-Klein

I wear green, won’t you do the same?

March Is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and advocacy and education is the key to acceptance and understanding.

“Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. CP is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain that affects a person’s ability to control his or her muscles.”

Cerebral Palsy Awareness is important to me because of my daughter. She inspires me every day. She is thirteen and was born with CP. She is the most courageous, happiest, and determined person I know. To her, CP is her normal, everyday life and would not change a thing. She will never walk or be successful with her right hand… but there are so many other things that she has excelled at including being a good, genuine, caring person. She has mastered playing video games one handed and going about her day with the use of one limb. She never complains or asks why me. She treats each day as a new day and goes out of her way to leave an impact on everyone. And this is what she is truly excellent at.

So…take the time to get to know someone with Cerebral Palsy. They will change your life. Stand with me and wear green to show support for them and all they must endure as well as how much they have overcome.
