What is motivation?

A friend and I were talking, and we came upon the topic of motivation. And it made me think about how motivation is EVERYWHERE, we just must look for it. There are pictures, people, quotes…just about anything can be attributed to motivation. But what exactly is motivation? Motivation is defined as “the desire to act in service of a goal. It’s the crucial element in setting and attaining our objectives.” If that is the case, then motivation should be a priority in all our lives. Instead, it is something each of us struggle with daily. Motivation is what we need to become better versions of ourselves. That should be enough to motivate us. Trying to become a better version of ourselves should be a daily goal hence motivation.

Where does my motivation come from? It comes from my children and my inner promise to myself that I will not give up. As you probably already know, both my children have special needs. That motivates me. Each of them must endure and overcome obstacles every single day. If they can be motivated, so can I. They must work towards goals that can seem unachievable, but they work hard to achieve these goals. If they work hard towards their goals, then so can I.

In the past, I saw a life coach and she saw so much good in me that I did not see. As we worked together, I started seeing my strengths instead of my weaknesses. We set some goals and I was reaching those goals. One of the life lessons I learned, and I remember to this day is to never give up no matter what the obstacle is. And if I can have this mindset… so can you. No matter how unattainable or high the goal, stay focused, motivated and you will reach that goal.
