Grief and Loss

“Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.”  – Ernest Hemingway

On March 12, 2021, someone that I was remarkably close to passed away from cancer. He was not only a father figure to me but also a friend. He was the type of person who would help anyone that needed help. He was always in a good, positive mood. The best thing about him is that he saw the good in me when I did not always see it. No number of words can explain how much I am going to miss him.

When my children were little, he would take us to all their doctor’s appointments that were a long distance away from home. We traveled to Louisville, KY, Lexington, KY, Indianapolis, IN, and Nashville, TN. I have lots of fond memories of our travels. We had lots of talks and laughs. These are the memories that are getting me through the grieving process.

I have learned that the grieving process is different for each person and there are stages to go through. No two people grieve the same. I can think of a memory and just cry and am just sad. Whereas someone else grieves by going through their loved one’s things. Some people hold everything on the inside and others must get it out of their system. Without the grieving process, we cannot move forward with our lives. And we must move forward in his honor.

RIP Skip. You are loved by many and will be missed.
